Things to Do in the Circle City

Whether you were born and raised in the Circle City or are visiting for the first time, there's always something new to discover. Here is a list of fun things to do in Indianapolis.

1. Sporting events. Indianapolis is the only city to boast four professional sports teams that all play within a four-block radius in downtown, so there's something for most die-hard sports fans.

2. Entertainment. Attend a concert at the Old National Centre. This venue, originally named the Murat Temple when it opened in 1910, is the largest Shrine temple in North America.

3. Cultural hot spots. The Indianapolis Museum of Art has been ranked by USA Today as one of the top 10 marriage proposal locations because of the famous LOVE sculpture. For those who like to enjoy their art outside, adjacent to the museum is the 100 Acres: The Virginia Fairbanks Art and Nature Park. Located on 100 acres of woodlands, wetlands, meadows, and a 35-acre lake, the park opened in June 2010 and is one of the largest museum parks in the country.

4. Family fun. As the first institution to be triple-accredited as a zoo, aquarium, and a botanical garden, the Indianapolis Zoo features the world's largest shark touch tank, the world's first totally submerged dolphin viewing exhibit, and a new cheetah exhibit for 2010.

5. Shopping galore. Indianapolis is home to the 1886 City Market, which has remained true to its name since that time and is undergoing a makeover through spring 2011 to further enhance its surroundings. Also stop by the city's Mass Ave, which is known as the downtown area's premier arts and entertainment district.
